Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving play style and regular outbursts on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an improved serve.
He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.
The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.
The opponent saved four early chances in a tight third set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.
